Laser drilled ‘Pinholes’ and ‘Slits’

Precision, top quality laser drilled pinhole apertures mounted in 18mm brass discs. These pinholes are perfectly round and fault free.
The material (copper with palladium plating)  is 50 microns thick, that’s 0.002″, or 0.05mm –  extremely thin. The thinner the better when it comes to image quality! These are the pinholes used on all the RealitySoSubtle cameras. The pinhole is sandwiched between the 18mm diameter brass disc (0.5mm thickness) and black aluminium tape. Pinhole size is written on the back of the brass disc. These are great pinholes for your camera projects!

Size Selection:

To optimize the sharpness of your images refer to the table below. Choose the most suitable diameter for your desired focal length (pinhole to film distance).. Your f number (aperture) will be the focal length divided by the diameter. Example: 20mm focal length with 0.15mm pinhole = (20/0.15) = f/133

Email if you need some help with your focal length/pinhole size decision.

Slits:

There are also laser drilled 5:1 ratio slits available in 2 sizes:

0.2x 1mm

0.3 x 1.5mm

slit-0-3x1-5

You chose the slit size by the smaller dimension as per choosing a pinhole. To determine the effective aperture for a slit you divide the focal length by the small dimension and then reduce by 2 stops.

 Example :

25mm focal length using Slit 0.2x 1mm.

Aperture = 25/0.2 = f/125. Reduce by 2 stops = f/64 (using F stop progression below as an aid).

F stop progression: f/16 – f/32 – f/45 – f/64 – f/90 – f/128 – f/180 – f/256 – f/360
